How to Play Sega Classic Arcade Collection on Mega CD

Check Console Region: Verify that your Mega CD console matches the region of the game (Japanese for this import). If not, install a region mod or use a converter. Common mistake: trying to play a Japanese game on a US console without modification.
Connect Your Console: Connect the Mega CD to your TV using composite or SCART cables, ensuring a secure connection to the Mega Drive/Genesis. Check that the AV cable is fully inserted to avoid signal issues.
Insert the Disc: Open the disc tray, place the Sega Classic Arcade Collection disc label-side up, and close it gently. Common mistake: inserting the disc upside down; always check the label.
Power On and Boot: Turn on the console. The game should auto-boot; if it doesn't, try resetting the console or cleaning the disc. If the screen stays black, the disc may be dirty or the laser lens needs cleaning.
Navigate the Game Menu: Use the controller to select a game from the arcade collection and start playing. Common mistake: pressing start too quickly and skipping the menu; wait for the title screen.

Quick Answer

To play Sega Classic Arcade Collection on Mega CD, ensure you have a compatible console and correct region, then follow the setup steps below.

Why Region Matters for Mega CD Games

The Sega Mega CD (also known as Sega CD in North America) is region-locked, meaning a Japanese game will only run on a Japanese console or one that has been modified. If you have a US or European console, you may need a region bypass device, a modchip, or a converter cartridge.

Keep in mind that some games may run at a different refresh rate (PAL vs NTSC), affecting speed and sound. Check your TV's compatibility with 60Hz output for the best experience.
