Discover what's in the Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets Boosted preorder for Switch, and decide if this Cave shmup bundle is worth your coin.
Quick answer
If you're a Cave shmup enthusiast, the Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets Boosted preorder is a worthwhile pickup at $31.04, offering two cult classics on one Switch cart. But it's not for casual players or those expecting modern conveniences.
Why this bundle matters for shmup fans
Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets are two of Cave's lesser-known arcade shooters, originally released on Xbox 360. They've been revived for the Switch by City Connection, making them more accessible than ever. For collectors and genre enthusiasts, having both games in one package is a practical way to own these rare titles without hunting down expensive used copies.
The games are known for their distinctive styling and relentless projectile patterns. If you enjoy bullet-hell challenges, this is a solid addition to your library. However, don't expect a casual experience—these are demanding shooters that reward practice and memorization.
Trade-offs to consider before preordering
The preorder price of $31.04 is a good deal compared to the catalog price of $44.99, but you're committing to a game that may not suit everyone. If you're new to shmups, the difficulty curve could be off-putting. Also, because it's a preorder, there may be a wait before it ships—plan accordingly if you want it for a specific occasion.
Another point: the games are from an older arcade era, so don't expect modern QoL features like extensive tutorials or adjustable difficulty beyond what was in the originals. The charm lies in the authentic arcade experience, which is a plus for purists but a potential drawback for others.
Decision rules for preordering
- Are you a Cave fan?: If you already enjoy Cave shooters like DoDonPachi or Mushihimesama, this preorder is a no-brainer for your collection. Check if you own other Cave titles to gauge your interest.
- Do you prefer physical or digital?: If you like having physical copies for your Switch collection, the preorder is ideal. If you prefer instant access, consider waiting for a digital release. Decide before the preorder window closes.
- Is the difficulty acceptable?: These games are known for relentless projectile patterns. If you're not up for a challenge, this might not be the right purchase. Watch gameplay videos to see if the difficulty looks manageable.
