Final Fantasy VI (Cart Only)

Even with just the cartridge, the opening sequence alone proves Uematsu squeezed emotions out of that SFC chip I didn't think possible – those soaring strings still give me chills. The sprite work during the opera scene is a visual treat that holds up surprisingly well even today.

It’s been over twenty years since I last played this and the emotional story still hits just as hard, plus the colors on a CRT are genuinely stunning. The way the score shifts from tender piano to frantic battle themes is something I haven’t found in many modern games.

I was blown away by how gorgeous the sprite work is on a CRT, and the music really does push the SFC sound chip to its limits. The emotional highs and lows in the story hit me just as hard as I remembered.
