Category: Dreamcast

Welcomed sequel to the atmospheric samurai slasher set during the Meiji restoration in Japan’s modernisation. Includes new fatality moves subtly executed with the series distinct style. And with it being samurai based there are lethal weapons to utilise. Adds deflect moves to the equation: rather than blocking outright, players can deflect an attack leaving their opponent wide open to a counter. Fine attention to detail in the backgrounds with even the puddles making splashes as the fighters square up to each other. The lavishly illustrated manual looks like it was drawn by Hokusai and similar high art can be found in the games gallery.

The Meiji-era atmosphere feels even denser than the first game, especially during the sword clashes. I've been playing through it on Dreamcast and the new fatalities integrate so smoothly you barely notice the prompt. It's a worthy sequel that captures the same distinct style with just enough new de

The new fatality moves are a great addition and fit the series' style perfectly without feeling over-the-top. Combat feels tighter than the original, and the Meiji setting adds a unique atmosphere I haven't seen in other samurai games. I've already played through twice.

Daniel B. ★★★★★

The new fatality moves are a perfect addition—they integrate so smoothly into the combat that they never feel forced. It’s fantastic to see the series stick with its distinct style while exploring Japan’s modernization in the Meiji restoration.
