R Type tread boldly into the unknown world of 3D in its Playstation incarnation and delivered superb graphical gee whizz to go with luscious lighting effects. The weapons system uses auto targeting which can be a real blessing when things are starting to get a bit hairy. The revamping of the game shows what a seminal release it was.

Andrew ★★★★★

The auto-targeting weapons system makes dogfights feel fluid and responsive, even when the screen gets chaotic with those luscious lighting effects. I've been playing the 3D stages for hours and the graphical detail still impresses me.

Jason E. ★★★★★

The lighting effects in the 3D stages are genuinely stunning, and the auto targeting makes combat feel fluid. I've been playing through the R-Typers mode nonstop since it arrived.

Miles ★★★★★

The auto targeting on the weapons system makes it so much easier to focus on dodging. Twenty years later this still holds up, and seeing those 3D lighting effects again was worth every penny.
