Yoshis Island DS - Main image
$17.74 $24.99 In stock

Category: Nintendo DS

Sequel to the seminal Super Famicom platformer with child like cartoony crayon squiggles and cheery colours making for a bright and breezy platformer. The key as before is to not lose Yoshis passenger for too long so the punishment of instant death is lessened encouraging exploration for the hidden coins and areas. The attributes of Yoshis passenger also come into play with Peach able to slow down falls Mary Poppins style with her brolly and Mario can rebound eggs off walls for tactical shots at seemingly unreachable targets. The double screen DS is put to good use – sometimes only the bottom screen can be used to see the enemy masked up top as in the clever clash with the ghost in the mirror.

Robert G. ★★★★★

The levels are huge and branching, I kept getting lost but in a fun way. Keeping Yoshi's passenger safe while collecting all the stars adds a nice challenge.

Joshua ★★★★★

I was worried the baby-carrying mechanic would get old, but the level design keeps it fresh and the music is so catchy I've been humming it all day. The controls feel just as tight as the original, and the bright colors make every stage easy to follow.

Scarlett ★★★★★

The crayon-squiggle art style is so charming and cheerful, it immediately brought back that classic Yoshi's Island feel. I love how it plays on the DS with the dual screens, and the challenge of not losing Yoshi's passenger keeps every level engaging.
